Rohit sharma score third One Day international double hundred
Mohali: Rohit, who was leading the Indian side in absence of Virat Kohli ,Rohit Sharma scored his third one-day international double-century during the second match against Sri Lanka in Mohali on Wednesday, helping India surge to 392 for 4.
Rohit Sharma scored 208 against Sri Lanka in the second ODI.In his innings of 208*, Rohit Sharma struck 13 sixes and 12 fours and became the first player to score a double ton in ODI as captain. Rohit is the only batsman in the world to score two or more double-tons in one-day internationals.
Rohit reached his century off 115 balls and his 150 came off 133. Such was the impact of his hitting that he needed just 18 deliveries to get from 150 to 200.During his spectacular innings, Rohit Sharma scored four consecutive sixes against Sri Lanka’s fast bowler Suranga Lakmal.
In November 2013, Rohit had become the third male batsman after Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to score an ODI double-century, stunning Australia with 209 off 158 balls with 12 fours and 16 sixes. A year later, against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens, he pummelled the highest score in ODIs – 264 off 173 balls, with 33 fours and nine sixes.
A host of records were broken on the day that saw Rohit reach his 16th ODI hundred en route to a double hundred. His last double hundred also came against Sri Lanka while the first one was recorded against Australia.
Rohit added 115 with Shikhar Dhawan for the first wicket today, and followed it with a 233-run stand with Shreyas Iyer. Dhawan and Iyer fell for 68 and 88 respectively,also contributed with half centuries.
